Job Hunt Time Management

Was not sure what to write about this week so I decided to write about Job hunting time management. Growing up, time management was not a big deal to me or something I really cared too much about. Once I entered the work force, that changed drastically. Slowly over time I picked up on things that help me stay on track. I am using all the skills I learned or taught myself, now more than ever.

After completing and graduating from Flatiron I was so excited I thought, “finally done with schooling for a little while” but I was extremely wrong. My career coach convinced me to finish my university degree online since I was so close to completing it. This is where the time management skills for the job hunt come into play. I now have to juggle, a full time job, school, coding practice/app building, Dungeon and Dragons night with my friends (need to have fun too) and job search/out reach for network building. I am not going to lie it is a lot of work.

The most important thing I do is starting Sunday night I open notepad and write down everything I need to do for the up coming week. Assignments due, day(s) for coding, gym, work, day(s) for job application and out reach to potential networks, everything. I plan out the week using Google calendar. Day by day I structure my week so that I can make sure everything fits in. Most of the time I end up using my weekend to catch up on somethings depending on how busy work is but everything gets done.

I set reminders on EVERYTHING, just 10 minute reminder on each event. A quick, do not forget that this is coming up. The last and potentially most important thing I do is, I will set numerical identifiers 1–5 on each event to classify our important it is that I complete the task that day. 1 being “This MUST be completed today” and 5 “Is is okay if this gets push back a day or to the weekend”.

These are the main steps I take for time management. Honestly I really should consider making an app or using an app that has systems like this in place. Might make things more fluid. I will take a look into time management apps. Perhaps next weeks writing will be apps for time management.
